Mīqāt ("the app", "we", "us") is a prayer-times and Qibla-direction app published by BinaryOps. This policy explains what information the app uses, what it sends over the network, and what it never does. It applies to the Mīqāt Android app available on Google Play.
In short: Mīqāt works entirely offline for its core features. It does not require an account, does not show ads, does not use any analytics or advertising SDK, and does not collect, sell, or share personal data. The only network requests the app makes are the ones described below, and only when you ask for them.
Information the app uses
Mīqāt does not ask you to create an account and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifier.
Location. With your permission, the app reads your device's GPS or network-based location to calculate accurate prayer times and the Qibla direction for where you are. You can also set your location manually by searching for a city instead of granting this permission. Your location is used only on your device, for this calculation. It is never transmitted anywhere, stored on a server, or shared with any third party.
Prayer settings. Your chosen calculation method, Madhab, notification and Azan preferences, and selected Azan recordings are stored only in the app's private storage on your device. They are never transmitted off the device.
Network use
The app connects to the internet only for the Azan (call to prayer) audio library, and only when you take an action that needs it:
Browsing the Azan catalogue — loading the list of available reciters and recordings.
Listening to a preview — streaming a recording you tap "Listen" on, before you decide whether to download it.
Downloading a recording — only when you tap "Download", so it can play offline afterwards.
These recordings are served from public audio hosting sources (including GitHub and Wikimedia Commons). No personal data, device identifier, or location is attached to these requests beyond what any standard network request includes (such as your IP address, which is inherent to how the internet works and is not logged or used by us).
Outside of the Azan library, the app makes no network requests. Prayer time and Qibla calculations happen entirely on your device using open astronomical formulas.
Permissions the app requests, and why
Location (fine/coarse) — To calculate prayer times and Qibla direction for where you are. Optional if you set your location manually.
Notifications — To alert you when a prayer time enters.
Exact alarms / "Alarms & reminders" — So prayer alerts and the Azan play at the precise time, not a few minutes late.
Ignore battery optimizations — Optional; prevents the operating system from delaying or skipping the Azan when the device is idle.
Foreground service / media playback — Lets the Azan audio play reliably at prayer time, including when the app is in the background.
Receive boot completed — Reschedules your prayer alerts after the device restarts, so they keep working without you having to reopen the app.
Vibrate — Used for the Qibla compass's alignment feedback and for notification vibration.
Internet — Used only as described in "Network use" above.
What the app does not do
No advertising, and no advertising SDKs of any kind.
No analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs.
No account creation, login, or user profiles.
No sale or sharing of personal data with third parties.
No access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or files.
Data storage and deletion
All app data (your settings and any downloaded Azan recordings) is stored locally in the app's private storage on your device. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all of it. Since nothing is stored on our servers, there is no remote account or data for us to delete on your behalf.
Children's privacy
Mīqāt is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change accordingly. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
